Cause of snowmobile crash unknown




On March 10, 2012 at 8:49 p.m. Cook County Law Enforcement received a cell phone call reporting a snowmobile accident. The caller reported, “Two down, both breathing and conscious.”

The driver of one snowmobile was Keven Lee Burkart, 40, of Prior Lake, MN. The driver of the other machine was Michael Keith Isaacs, 29, Hibbing, MN.

According to Cook County Law Enforcement, the two snowmobiles had a head-on collision on the expressway snowmobile trail north of Devil Track Lake.

Cook County sheriff deputies and State Patrol were on scene by 8:56 p.m. and Search and Rescue was there to transport accident victims out at 9:21 p.m. The accidint occurred about 300 yards on on the trail. Both parties were transported by Cook County Ambulance to North Shore Hospital and then to Duluth hospitals. Cook County Law Enforcement reported that at the time of transport, one party had abrasions and a possible neck fracture. No further information has been released.

There were no witnesses and tracks were covered so the cause of the accident is not known. No charges or prosecution are expected.
