Cause of death released for Hanson

Autopsy results for Jeffrey Allan Hanson, 53, Grand Marais, have been released. Hanson was found deceased a short distance from his vehicle on County Road 14 on October 18, 2009.

The St. Louis County Medical Examiner report ruled the cause of death as hypothermia. The report and investigation determined that when Hanson’s 2008 Toyota Yaris left the roadway, he suffered significant pulmonary contusions and a laceration to the right lung. Due to his injuries, and the presence of alcohol in his system, he succumbed to hypothermia. His blood alcohol level was determined to be .07.

Cook County Sheriff Mark Falk said there is absolutely no evidence of foul play. “It was just a totally unfortunate accident,” said Falk.
