May 27 was a happy day for Mike Larson and Steve Surbaugh, partners in Cascade Vacation Rentals, Inc. (CVR). CVR hosted an open house and tour of the newly completed employee housing/multi-use building, conveniently located up the hill behind their offices in the heart of Lutsen.

The beautiful building (also referred to as their campus project) features two very nice employee housing units. Each completely furnished unit has two bedrooms, two full baths, a nicely appointed kitchen and is comfortably furnished with an attractively decorated living room. The units also have a balcony deck with Lake Superior views. Residents will have access to WiFi, television and laundry.

There are two more beautifully furnished and decorated studio units to be used for local people in transition, new employees to the area looking for temporary housing while they locate other housing considerations, overflow for area visitors and staff housing for CVR as well.

There were many participants in bringing this project to fruition. In attendance were Michael Colclough of Northland Foundation of Duluth and Bill Arezzo of National Bank of Commerce in Duluth, financial providers; Pat Campanaro, former Cook County/Grand Marais Economic Development Authority (EDA) administrator and current Small Business Development Center representative for Cook County; Mary Somnis, newly appointed director of the EDA, formerly of the IRRRB, as well as many local business owners and community members.

Lutsen Supervisor Rae Piepho said, “Mike, Steve and their talented staff have provided a very welcoming and needed addition to the area.”
