Rain didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of onlookers at the 2014 Classic Car Show in downtown Grand Marais. Although it was a little chilly, the drizzle made the beautiful cars shine all the more.
The weather did keep some entrants away, but those who trekked to Grand Marais on Saturday, June 7 had a great time.
Maggie Barnard of the Cook County Visitors Bureau, which hosted the classic car show said, “Due to pouring rain it was a small but high quality show, about half the entries of past years.”
Attendees still had the chance to vote for their favorites. Taking home the “People’s Choice” trophy was Jerry Lutz of White Bear Lake, Minnesota with his 1935 Ford Cabriolet. He also took first place in the custom hot rods category.
The 2014 Commissioner’s Trophy went to Walter “Butch” Schulte of Grand Marais for his red 1967 Olds Cutlass convertible. The trophy was awarded by Commissioners Sue Hakes and Heidi Doo-Kirk. Their judges’ comments were, “Impeccable condition. Clean engine. Nice touch with the classic Coca-Cola red trailer attached in matching red color.” The Mayor’s Trophy for 2014 went to Roger Flink of Lutsen for his entry, a Porsche Coupe 2-seater.

A new trophy was awarded this year, for best car club participation. Claiming the inaugural trophy was the Midwest Mopar North Club.
