Carl R. Anderson of Grand Marais died on May 25, 2012, at 85 “years young”. Carl lived his life in Minnesota, growing up in Richfield and living for many years in Burnsville and on Ruth Lake near Emily. He was a regular visitor to Cook County and moved to Grand Marais in 2003. His family, the natural world, music and being physically active were his keenest interests and greatest joys.
Carl was a great appreciator of the state’s extensive forests, lakes, and rivers. He valued, enjoyed and marveled at wildlife of all kinds and took great pleasure in the many moods of Lake Superior. Throughout his life he was an enthusiast of outdoor activities in every season – from running and cycling to ice skating, ice fishing and skiing. He was an avid walker to the end.
He is deeply missed by his daughters Chel (John Alt) and Kim and his grandson, Walker, for whom, “He was the best Grandpaw! He taught me all he knew from A to Z.” For his family and friends, Carl’s resilience, resourcefulness, self-reliance, enthusiasm for living and unwavering love and encouragement are a lasting and treasured legacy.
