During the summer, my wife and I live just off the Caribou Trail near Tait Lake. Until this summer we have always admired how well the county maintains the unpaved portion of this road.
Something has changed this summer and not for the better. The condition of this road is terrible, not only for the people who live along it but also for hundreds of tourists who use it to access the BWCA and local lakes and sites.
It is full of potholes, ruts, ditches, and “washboard” bumps. I have nearly lost control of my vehicle, not to mention the fillings in my teeth, driving into or over one of these hazards.
I ask the county to please put away the mowers that have chopped down all the beautiful wild flowers, plants and grasses along the trail and get out the graders and make this road pleasant and safe to drive on again.
