Spring is in the air for everyone at the North Shore Care Center—especially with Daylight Saving Time and the first day of spring just around the corner. As we spring forward, the month of March brings the fun of St. Patrick’s Day, indoor gardening projects, and the season of Easter.

There will be outings in the community for shopping downtown, lunch at the Senior Center, and a concert by the Borealis Chorale and Orchestra at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

A monthly birthday party will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 13 to honor Gert Scott and Audrey Haring. Cake and ice cream will be served at 3 p.m. along with piano classics by Doug Sanders.

St. Patty’s festivities will include craft projects, shamrock treats, Pot of Gold bingo, and two special Irish meals. The Grand Marais Lioness Club will host their monthly social with special desserts on Saturday, March 16 at 3 p.m. There will be piano music and an Irish sing-a-long by Irene Thompson and Nora Bockovich.

Spring officially begins on March 20, so residents will start planting seeds for their sale in May. Everyone hopes that March “goes out like a lamb,” because we’re all thinking spring!

There will be plenty of music during March with musicians Al Fuller, Susan Scherer, Myron Bursheim, Kate Kelnberger, and Harris Mills. Two local bands will also be coming in.

A new sound for the residents will be ’70s music performed by the band Earth, Wind & Todd on Wednesday, March 6 at 5:30 p.m. Later in March the classic county band Portage will return for their monthly dance on Saturday, March 23 at 6:30 p.m. As always, families, friends, and community folks are welcome to attend any of our music events.

Students from the After School Program will be back in March to help out with bingo and to enjoy the fun of the game with their elders.

There are volunteer opportunities for all ages at North Shore Care Center. For more information about the activity programs or to volunteer, please contact the Activity Dept. at 218-387-3518 or visit our website, www.nshorehospital.com.
