Summer has gone by quickly for residents at North Shore Care Center. There was a lot of time spent outdoors on the patio for picnics, gardening, games, and live music. We will keep hanging on to summer for a few more weeks and look forward to warm weather for our Labor Day weekend picnic and outing.

TheCook County Fair was a big highlight for many of the residents this year. Several folks entered flowers, vegetables, art work, crafts, knitting, and even puzzles. There were 17 entries with 11 blue ribbons and two red ribbons. It was fun to go to the fair and see all the other wonderful entries, too.

September outings will take us to a play at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts, to the WTIP Radio Waves music fest, for lunch at the Senior Center, and on some leaf tour outings—with stops at the Dairy Queen.

The monthly birthday party will be celebrated on September 8 at 3:00 p.m. with classic piano music by Doug Sanders. There will be cake and ice cream for residents, and families to honor Olga Erickson, Irene Leng, Mable Stoltz, and Gladys Rindahl.

Sisters Millie Swartz and Doris Blank were reunited at the luau last week, thanks to Patty Winchell Dahl. Millie moved into the Care Center and is now closer to her family.

The Lioness Club will be hosting afternoon socials on the third Saturdays of the month beginning September 18 at 3:00 p.m. There will be special desserts and music for everyone.

September 22 may be the first day of fall, but it also is National Centenarian Day. There are now four residents over the age of 100 years at the Care Center. Margot Florell, Millie Mainella, Bertha Toftey, and Anne Maurin will celebrate Centenarian Day with Mayor Hakes, family, friends, and staff at 3:00 p.m. There will be cake and ice cream, along with special music.

There is a great lineup of music all month at the Care Center. North Shore
