Card Lady news from Birch Grove

Here’s some news from the “Birch Grove Card Lady,” Lavona Czaplicki: The Birch Grove Card Making group started many years ago with Cindy Gilbertson being our Stampin’ Up demonstrator. Our group used to meet either at the Schroeder Town Hall or in private homes. We found that we liked the Birch Grove facility to have our group meet because it was a nice environment for making paper crafts.

We meet once a month on the second Sunday at 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. (Note the changed time). Anyone, including children, can come and do paper crafts with us. We are all more than willing to help and share our supplies for those who don’t have their own. We charge $5 per person, excluding children, to help give a donation to the Birch Grove Foundation and to help pay the coordinators a little to cover their cost of donated materials.

Along with crafts, we have a potluck for dinner/ supper. Bring your own beverages.

We have created a children’s box of donated paper craft items for the kids to use. It is chock full of stickers, paper, glue, stamps, ink pads, glitter glue and embellishments.

On the first Sunday of every month, local crafters gather at the Birch Grove Community Center to scrapbook and make beautiful cards like these.

We have scheduled a Senior and Children’s Christmas party on Dec. 9, 2015 during the Wednesday Senior lunch. At noon the children and our senior lunch guests will get together for cookies (prepared and donated by Rita Wehseler), gifts and Christmas carols.

The Senior Christmas lunch on Dec. 16, 2015 will be held at noon at Bluefin Grille, which is so gracious and kind in assisting us with this event. Please call 218-663-7977 or stop in at Birch Grove Community Center to reserve your Christmas lunch.

We have been working on a venture with the Cook County Community YMCA on obtaining an instructor to come in and motivate and assist with getting W.E.Fit.! Emily Marshall, Branch Executive Director, has been wonderful in assisting us with our needs.

Cook County has a vibrant and active community of elders. Each week we will offer Senior News to highlight our senior citizens. This week’s submission is about the Birch Grove Community Center in Tofte courtesy of Brenda Melin.
