The Grand Marais Playhouse is excited to announce its latest youth and community collaboration— Captain Louie, Jr. The play is based on the popular picture book The Trip by Ezra Jack Keats. There is delightful music by Stephen Schwartz and it spins the tale of young Louie, the “new kid” in town.
Feeling lonely and friendless after his family moves to a new neighborhood, Louie looks for something to cheer himself up on Halloween. He takes an imaginary journey to visit his old neighborhood friends on the wings of his favorite toy, his little red plane.
Director Sue Hennessy says the story of little Captain Louie is full of tricks and treats, as well as incomparable music and lyrics. “Most of all, Captain Louie, Jr.is about friendship – the ability to make new friends as well as the importance of old ones,” said Hennessy.
Performances are October 24, 25, 27 and Nov. 1, 2, 3, Thurs. – Sat. 7 p.m. and Sundays 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students.
