Candidates are being sought for a number of city boards and commissions for the City of Grand Marais. At the Wednesday, December 9 Grand Marais City Council meeting, City Administrator Mike Roth told the council he would place an advertisement for the positions but suggested that councilors talk to citizens who may be interested.
“Most of the time we have applicants or the person already serving is willing to continue. It ebbs and flows,” said Roth. “We’ve had up to seven applicants but sometimes a position has been vacant for months. It never hurts to go out and recruit.”
Roth said the city advertises for all of the positions, even for positions held by people who have expressed willingness to continue.
There are two openings on the Library Board, two on the Park Board, and one on the Public Utilities Commission. Roth said he had heard from some of the people currently serving that want to continue, but not all. He said Lindsay Mielke of the Park Board informed the city that she was not seeking reappointment.
Details on qualifications for the open positions, length of terms, and frequency and dates of meetings are available at City Hall. For more information, call Roth at (218) 387-1848.
Roth said interested parties should submit applications by January 7, 2010 so the council can review candidates at the first meeting in January. The city council usually makes the appointments at the first meeting of the new year.
