So far, two candidates have signed up to compete for the District 4 Cook County commissioner seat now held by incumbent Heidi Doo-Kirk. The two candidates are Ann Sullivan and Charles Christianson.
In District 2, incumbent Myron Bursheim and Jaye White have filled out their candidate forms and paid their $50 filing fee to enter the commissioner race.
Candidates have until June 2 to sign up. If more than two candidates are on the ballot in either district, there will be a primary runoff held in August. The general election will be held in November 2020.
Cook County commissioner meetings are held at 8:30 a.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month with a Committee of the Whole meeting held on the third Tuesday of each month.
Commissioners serve four-year terms.
Soil and Water Board
While there are three spots open on the Cook County Soil and Water Conservation Board, no one has signed up for any of those openings as of Friday, May 22, said Auditor/ Treasurer Braidy Powers.
Anyone living in District 1, District 3 or District 5 who has an interest in improving water quality in Cook County by “fostering responsible land use and by controlling soil erosion and non-point pollution,” should sign up to run for a seat on the SWCD.
If you are unsure about which district you are living in, check out the county website under Maps and the GIS tab. Supervisors must only run in the districts where they live, but voters from throughout the county can vote for them.
Soil and Water candidates need to file an Affidavit of Candidacy with the County Auditor and pay a $20 filing fee. The county website has a Soil and Water section, which lists the duties of the SWCD.
