The Cook County Sheriff ’s Office was called to assist U.S. Customs and Border Protection at the U.S. – Canadian border in Grand Portage at 2:27 p.m. on Saturday, September 7. A vehicle owned by Canadian citizen Alex Patrick Leblanc, 23, of Alberta, was being searched. CBP officers told Law Enforcement dispatch that they had already found “over a pound” of marijuana and they were still searching.
By the time the search was finished, CBP officers and deputies had discovered 207.1 grams of marijuana, 2.5 grams of hash, 3.6 grams of cocaine, illegal prescription drugs and paraphernalia.
Leblanc was arrested and charged with numerous counts of drug possession and possession of paraphernalia. If convicted, Leblanc could face imprisonment for not more than 20 years, payment of a fine of not more than $250,000 or both.
Leblanc remains in the custody of the Cook County Sheriff ’s Office. His next court appearance is 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 23.
