Canada re-starts PCR tests for those who wish to cross the border

Here we go again.

Just when business was starting to pick up on the border towns, Canada decided to go ahead and once again mandate that non-essential travelers crossing the land borders to the U.S. must take a PCR test to regain re-entry back into Canada.

And while this measure is hard on business, it’s harder on families who are separated by the border and might not get to see each other over the holidays.

The new restrictions are also affecting folks living in Ontario in other ways. For example, starting Sunday, December 19, the Ontario province restricted restaurants, bars, gyms, retail stores, etc., to 50 percent capacity. As well, folks getting together socially can only do so in groups of ten, and outdoor social groups are limited to 25. But, of course, all provinces have their own rules surrounding the coronavirus, so these might not be the same across Maple Leaf Country.

Over the last month or so, Canada has allowed Canadians to come across the border for up to 72 hours without having to take a molecular COVID- 19 test when they come home. But that all changed on December 20, 2021, when everyone who crossed the border for non-essential travel– even for a very short period- -had to show proof of a pre-arrival negative molecular COVID-19 test to gain entry back into the country.
