Summer is in full swing at the Cook County Senior Center, with a lot of programs and things for people to do.
“We will have some new classes offered”, said Kim Nelson, new program director.
Programs include: Windmill Quilt on Wednesdays, Low Impact Fitness Group on Monday and Wednesday (morning), and Up-cycling Projects on Friday afternoons.
If it’s action you want, there are trips scheduled for the following dates and places: On July 11 the bus will go to the Tofte Fish Museum with lunch at Bluefin Bay. The next day, July 12, seniors can go the other way and take the bus to the Grand Portage Lodge and Casino in Grand Portage at 4:15 p.m. On July 24 a second outing is planned for Grand Portage, this time to Pigeon Falls for a hike and then lunch at Naniboujou.
A second trip of the month to the Grand Portage Lodge and Casino is scheduled for July 27, to leave at 9:45 a.m. Last but not least, Saturday, July 29 is reserved for an all-day scrapbooking event.
Several top-notch speakers will be coming to the Senior Center this month. On July 6 (after the paper came out) a presentation will be held about online library and book clubs. “We hope to start a book club,” Nelson said. If interested, please stop by to learn more about the book club.
A tour of the North House Folk School and finding out about volunteer opportunities will take place on July 27.
Diane Booth, director of the Cook County Community Center and a master gardener, will give a presentation on indoor gardening on July 31. Call 387-2660 for times.
Don’t forget, lunch for seniors is served Monday through Friday from 12 to 12:30 p.m. You don’t have to be a senior to use the facility’s computers; a card game is usually in process and if nothing else, stop down to visit.
