Artists will be selected to install works of art in designated public locations within North Shore Health September 1, 2023 – January 1, 2024.
North Shore Health (NSH) has enjoyed a proud history of displaying the creative work of local artists in their facility’s public areas. During COVID, that activity was paused due to safety protocols that discouraged public gatherings. Now that the pandemic has passed, NSH announced that they will reinstate their local artists’ exhibit program. “We thank all the artists who allowed their work to adorn our walls throughout the pandemic. We are thrilled to restart our art program now that the community can once again gather in public places,” said Kimber Wraalstad, NSH CEO.
NSH is requesting Submission Proposals & Qualifications for the display of works of art. The art will be original paintings, photography, fiber art, mosaic, sculpture and mixed media; essentially artwork that can be displayed on walls or atop pedestals. The art will be displayed in the lobby, registration area, hallways and other public areas of NSH. There are over 300 lineal feet of various spaces available, allowing for multiple pieces to be displayed.
Questions about the display area can be directed to Todd Ford via phone at 218-387-3508 or via email at Todd.Ford@northshorehealthgm.org.
The works of art should celebrate and reflect one or more aspects of the cultural, historical, geographical, or community attributes of Cook County and/or the North Shore. The selected art will be placed in areas of high profile to be viewed and enjoyed by visitors, patients, residents and employees of NSH.
The intention of this public art is to honor and reflect upon contemporary and historical Cook County and/or the North Shore. It should encourage a feeling of reflection, peace and nature consistent with an ambience of quiet reflection in a health care delivery environment.
Eligibility:
The Request for Submission is open to artists working in any suitable media, subject to the constraints imposed by ability to properly display the art.
Selection Process:
The Selection Committee will review and recommend successful “Request for Submissions” to NSH. Artists may be asked to make a presentation to the Selection Committee about the proposed art for the site, including visual representations, materials to be used, size, weight, installation specifications and methods, maintenance requirements, and other issues that are relevant to the successful use of the art selected.
Ownership and Use:
The selected art will remain the property of the artist. The art will be displayed for a period of 4 months. At the artist’s request, NSH will identify the work of art as available for purchase at a price suggested by the artist. The offering will be in the form of a supplemental plaque indicating availability and price, to be purchased from the artist. If there is interest in purchasing a work of art, NSH will provide artist information allowing for direct contact between the artist and possible purchaser. NSH will not charge or receive a commission on the sale of the work of art.
NSH will not be responsible or liable for the loss, damage or destruction of art provided pursuant to this request, unless the loss, damage or destruction is cause by the gross negligence of NSH. In that event, loss shall not exceed five hundred dollars.
