The 18th Annual Bayou Boogie celebration at Grand Portage Lodge & Casino Friday – Sunday, September 4 – September 6 will feature the return of old friends and new performers. In addition to authentic Louisiana cuisine like jambalaya, gumbo, and shrimp creole; Mardi Gras parades; and games and crafts for kids; there will be some new performers.
Treater Band and Washboard Charlie, one of Louisiana—and Minnesota’s—most popular zydeco bands, will be back, but joining them will be another young singing sensation, Lindsay Mendez.
At 13, this hard-rocking blues-singing teenager has quite a resume, having performed in Branson, Missouri, at the Liberty Bowl in Memphis, TN, and with a number of New Orleans’ bands—Vince Vance and the Valiants, Bobby Cure and the Summertime Blues, The Wise Guys, Big Daddy O, Waylon Thibodeaux, and many others. A visit to her website to hear It Hurts So Bad offers a glimpse of the show that will be offered at Bayou Boogie over Labor Day weekend.
Also taking the stage will be Sammy Naquin and the Zydeco Whips and Al Berard and the Basin Brothers Band.
The weekend kicks off at 4:00 p.m. on Friday with the first Mardi Gras Parade at 9:30 p.m., followed by an All-Band Jam that shouldn’t be missed at 10:15 p.m. Music, dancing, and fun continue through Sunday.
