As the end of another school year approaches, the Cook County High School music department is busy preparing for final performances and fundraisers, and making preparations for the 2012 spring trip to Memphis and Orlando.
The high school band will be traveling to the southeastern part of the United States to learn more about the history of rock and roll as well as to participate in a behindthe scenes recording session at Disney World. The students are working tirelessly on perfecting music as well as getting creative with ideas how to raise money while giving back to the community.
The first fundraising effort will be a black tie fundraiser on Friday, May 20 at the banquet hall at Grand Portage Lodge and Casino. This fundraiser features a social hour at 6 p.m. with music provided by CCHS band students, five-course dinner at 7 p.m., and live music by Arden Bruyere. Tickets are $50 and can be purchased from any CCHS band student.
Grand Portage Lodge also has a special room rate for this evening. For any questions, special seating requests or dietary needs, please call Billi Carlson at (218) 475- 2917.
If you enjoy the music at the black tie dinner, you will love the next fundraising opportunity! The band will be offering a professionally recorded CD. On May 24, band members, local musicians and artists will be working with Legacy Productions of the Twin Cities to produce a CD entitled A Night at the Theater. The CD will feature the music of Hollywood. The CDs will be $20 and can be purchased from any band student.
Additional funding for the CD project is provided by Thrivent Lutherans.
The final band concert of the year is set for Thursday, May 19 at 7 p.m. in the varsity gym at the high school.
This is also the evening for the Senior Show. All band students, grades 6-12, will be participating in this evening of music. Attendees could win a chance to conduct the high school band.
If you’re too busy to think of anything but yard work, the band can help you out. At the Thursday, May 19 event, the high school band will be holding a silent auction to help out the members of the community. Students will be showcasing all that they can do to help their neighbors. Some students may be great babysitters, others excellent dog walkers. Some students have what it takes to get a yard in shape for summer. As you are admiring the fine work of the seniors at the Senior Show and waiting for the spring band concert to begin, check out what the band students can do for you.
