Busy Sunday for east end emergency responders




Two accidents in less than an hour on the east end of the county kept emergency responders busy on Sunday, January 11, 2015.

The Cook County Law Enforcement Center received a call at 3:02 p.m. reporting that a car had hit a deer and rolled over in the ditch near the intersection of North Road and Highway 61 in Hovland. The Hovland Fire Department and First Responders, Colvill Fire Department and First Responders and Cook County Ambulance were paged and responders were on scene by 3:17 p.m.

When the Cook County Ambulance arrived, the Canadian driver of the 2006 Honda SUV was out of the vehicle and apparently uninjured.

The Safety Team Operational Patrol (STOP) assisted with traffic control as Cook County Towing removed the vehicle from the ditch. Responders were clear of the scene at 5:27 p.m.

Another call came in to Cook County Law Enforcement at 3:41 p.m. reporting another car in the ditch on Highway 61 near Brule River in Hovland. The driver, Sean Patrick Stack, 28, of Grand Portage, told sheriff deputies that he was driving east when he hit a patch of ice and lost control of his car, a Mini Cooper.

Another tow truck was called and the STOP team also assisted with traffic until the vehicle was removed. Responders were clear of the scene at 5:48 p.m.

The driver was uninjured. No citation was issued.
