Busy month planned at Cook County Senior Center

All I can say about January so far…is brrr! If you are brave enough to venture out in the cold, we have warm bodies at the Senior Center still taking part in a variety of activities.

Some favorites, of course, are our bingo days with prizes. There is quilting this month….gathering together to finish up a quilt, wall hanging, etc., you may have started and might want some instruction on completing. Perhaps you just need the encouragement of others sewing with you to complete it.

This month’s book club will be discussing Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate. The book is based on America’s most notorious scandals in which Georgia Tann of the Memphis-based orphanage stole and sold children.

Our “Art Across the Ages” will be making snowmen once again. If you would like to include your grandchildren in this activity give me a call at the Senior Center. The necklace craft for adults will be simple enough for everyone.

Seniors gathered at the Cook County Senior Center for a friendly game of Farkle. To win at Farkle you must take turns rolling dice. On your turn, you roll all six dice. A one or a five, three of a kind, three pairs, or a six-dice straight earn points. First to 10,000 wins.

Health-related opportunities include foot care clinic, Medicare presentations, and a new group is meeting on Mondays – Healthy Living. This is organized by the Human Development Center and is a casual atmosphere for socializing. Mandy Podlewski will be leading this event.

Our genealogy group is getting established with folks working on their individual projects, yet sharing their challenges and successes with their hunt for information. This group meets twice a month. Cook County has a vibrant and active community of elders. Each week we offer Senior News to highlight our senior citizens.
