On September 19, 18 West End Seniors took the AEOA bus to Trestle Inn for our annual fall color tour and a delicious lunch of walleye sandwiches, Trestle burgers and b’bque ribs. The day before that, several seniors went on the Grand Marais State Bank’s trip to Gunflint Lake.
Last week was very busy around Birch Grove Community Center. The Sawtooth Mountain Clinic office was open on Tuesday and Wednesday in addition to our regular Senior Lunch, the clinic gave flu shots and Care Partners gave us an informative presentation. On Thursday, the AARP driving refresher class was held at Birch Grove.
Special thanks to all the seniors who volunteered to help out with the playground installation and who came to celebrate the grand opening of the 1 percent projects on Saturday, September 29. Roger Michaelson cut the ribbon on our new hearth oven, which was dedicated in memory of Muriel Michaelson, and Ginny Storlie cut the ribbon on the new warming house, dedicated in memory of Derald Storlie.
Another activity may be offered soon at Birch Grove—a beginning T’ai Chi class. If there are enough participants, a class will be held this spring. Birch Grove will also be planning some classes about the use of the hearth oven this winter. Contact Patty Nordahl at the Birch Grove Foundation to let her know if you are interested in these classes.
The clinic is open one day every week in October. Call (218) 387-2330 to make an appointment.
Mark your calendar for Zoar Lutheran Church’s Lutefisk Supper on November 10 here at Birch Grove.
