Local anglers stopping by Buck’s Hardware in Grand Marais report that walleyes are biting on Lake Saganaga. John recommends fishing in the weed lines in 12 – 15 feet of water, drifting leeches. Other fishermen have had luck in 30 feet using a jig and minnow.
Poplar Lake has also been a good walleye lake at 15 feet by anglers using a slip bobber and leech.
Lake trout have been caught in Greenwood Lake in 60-feet of water, fishing off the bottom with jig and minnow and in Trout Lake in 40-feet with minnows.
John said some nice rainbow trout have been caught in Kimball Lake at 12-15 feet depths trolling with preserved minnows.
Tyson at the Beaver House in Grand Marais has heard reports of good walleye fishing on Crescent, Two Island, Northern Light, and Seagull and also on Lake Saganaga. Anglers report that Northerns are biting well, but they aren’t sharing their fishing holes.
Tyson also reports good lake trout fishing on Lake Saganaga and Trout Lake, but they have also heard that Gunflint has been a good place to catch lake trout in the last week.
Rainbow trout can be found on Leo, Mink, Birch, Trestle Pine, and Kimball.
Anglers report that bass fishing has been good with fish biting on surface lures such as torpedoes.
