Where are the fish biting?

According to Tyson Cronberg at the Beaver House, walleyes have been biting on Cascade, Devil Track, Elbow, Pike Lake and Saganaga. John at Buck’s Hardware reports that walleyes are biting at 8 – 10-feet at Northern Light Lake by anglers trolling minnows and rapalas along the weed line. On Devil Fish Lake, they have been caught trolling at 18-feet using a Lindy Rig and leeches. On Two Island, fish have responded to jig and minnows at 20-feet. They have also been biting on Gunflint Lake in 30-feet of water using a slip bobber and leeches.

Both the Beaver House and Buck’s have heard good reports of walleye fishing on Crescent Lake, in 25-feet of water using leeches or minnows.

Lake Trout have been caught at Tuscarora, Trout (in 40 – 50-feet of water off the bottom, using jig and minnows), Clearwater and South Lake.

There are also reports of good trout fishing on Gunflint and Saganaga, with Buck’s reporting the best fishing at Gunflint in 60-feet of water with spoons suspended at 40 – 45-feet.

The Beaver House has heard that Lake Superior trout have been caught at depths of 70 – 120-feet.

Anglers have reported to the Beaver House that a few salmon are starting to bite. Tyson said the water is warming up in spots to the 50-degree range. Buck’s fishermen report finding salmon in 90 – 100-feet of water trolling spoon. Salmon are in the 3-6 pound range.

Tyson said brook trout are biting on Brule, Cascade, Temperance, and Kadunce Rivers and rainbow can be found on Mayhew, Trestle Pine, Ram, Dislocation and Leo Lakes. Buck’s reports that Trout Lake has been good for rainbow at 12 – 15-feet of water using night crawlers.

Anglers have been catching brown trout at Chester Lake in 12-feet of water using night crawlers.
