There were some familiar names at the top of the leadership board at the end of the 2019 Buck’s Big Fish Fisherman’s contest. Larry (Fish) Deschampe, who grew up being called by his nickname, came close to sweeping the northern and walleye division, and Dan Roberts’ name once again topped the leaderboard for brook trout, a spot he has occupied for many years.

Brook trout—Perennial brook trout winner Dan Roberts took first and third place with 2 lb., 10 oz. and 1 lb., 8 oz. entries. His friend and fishing partner Dan Viren squeezed into the second-place slot with a 1 lb., 13 oz.

Lake trout—Scott LeVander’s 16 lb., 4 oz. entry took top honors in the vaunted lake trout division. Dean Jacobsen’s 14-pound lunker was second, and LeVander took third with am 11-pound catch.

Bass—Qunicy Luper won the bass crown with a 4 lb., 5 oz. beauty while Dan Hauge took second and third with two entries that weighed 3 lb., 12 oz.

Northern—Larry (Fish) Deschampe lived up to his lifelong nickname, taking first and second in the northern division with fish that weighed 7 lbs., 11 oz. and 6 pounds. Lincoln Phillips took third place with a 5-pound catch.

Walleye—Gail Englund’s early 5 lb., 3 oz. entry held up over the contest, and she took top honors in the walleye division. Taking second and third with 3 lb. “twins” was Larry (Fish) Deschampe.

Salmon—Bill Simonwicz’s 7 lbs., 10 oz. salmon was the clear winner in the salmon category. Avery Motter’s 5 lb., 14 oz. catch and Michelle Peterson’ 5 lb., 9 oz. beauties placed second and third.

Once again the contest was sponsored by Buck’s Hardware Hank and Northern Wilds, with the winners taking home some nice prizes.
