Deer rifle season is over and at the end of the Buck’s Big Buck Contest, the winners were the same as at midseason.
Joe Deschampe of Grand Portage won the contest in the weight category with a buck weighing in at 244.9 pounds. He won a Remington 30-06 rifle.
In the contest for the widest antler spread, Eric Chatterson of Charlotte, Mich. won with a rack size of 21¼-inches. Chatterson won half the pot of entry money, $2,355.
All of the 471 hunters entered in the contest were in a drawing for the other half of the money. Winning the drawing was Steven Edson who took home $2,355.
Rifle deer season ended Sunday, November 24, however archery season continues until December 31. Black powder deer hunting season runs from November 30 to December 15 statewide.
