Buck’s Big Buck contest receives some big entries

Halfway through Minnesota’s firearm deer hunting season Buck’s Hardware in Grand Marais has seen some nice entries in the annual Buck’s Big Buck contest.

Conner Ingram’s early entry, a 230 pound field dressed buck is still in the lead, but barely. Trevor Deschampe brought in a buck that weighed 227 pounds and this beast had an antler spread of 23 ¾ inches, easily the biggest antler spread measured so far.

Clay Johnson and Ben Peters each weighed in bucks that were 220 pounds.

A total of 338 entries were recorded.

The winner of the heaviest (largest dressed weight) buck will receive a new rifle. Half of the entry money will go to the hunter who brought in the deer with the biggest antler spread, and the other half of the money will go to the winner of the drawing, which is pulled from the pool of applicants who paid $10 each to enter.
