Bruce Kerfoot was selected 2017 Cook County Senior Citizen of the year, a well-deserved honor.
Bruce has four grown children, Bryan, Shawn, Robert, and Lee. He has lived in Cook County his entire life, and he and Sue owned and operated Gunflint Lodge until last year when they sold the business.
In the letter received to nominate Bruce, the writer states, “Bruce has worked for Cook County every day of his life. He was part of the Gunflint Trail Fire/ Search and Rescue ambulance crew. He donated the land for (fire hall) Hall 2. Bruce served with Red Cross. He worked with legislators and had gone to the Minnesota Capitol to fight for funding for Cook County.
“Also, Bruce raised most of the money for the Chik Wauk museum and volunteered many hours for many organizations.
“Bruce was also a longtime Boy Scout leader and served on the school board…we can thank him for the Arrowhead Center for the Arts building!”
The letter writer also stated: “He doesn’t boast or brag, he just quietly supports. The Gunflint Canoe Races have remained for so long because he shared his resort, space and his staff.
There’s much more to Bruce and what he has done for the county…I can list 100 more things he has done for Cook County and the Trail!
“PS if you have a better citizen then consider him and Sue for Couple of the Year. He couldn’t do it without her support.”
