Walks and trips for Senior Center

The warm sunny days to date can be counted on the fingers of one hand, but at the Senior Center we are planning as if warm weather will eventually arrive.

In June we hope to be able to walk to Artists’ Point on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday at 10:45AM. We walk from the Senior Center when the temperature is above 50 degrees.

Alta McQuatters, president of the Cook County Historical Society, will lead a tour of the St. Francis Xavier Church in Chippewa City (on the outskirts of Grand Marais) on Monday, June 15, at 12:30PM. Meet at the Senior Center to take the Arrowhead bus.

Meet Richard McKenzie, Cook County Veterans Services Officer, at the Father’s Day Lunch on Wednesday, June 17. After lunch Mr. McKenzie will be available to meet with individual vets.

On June 24, our Brighter Side bus will be going to Finland. We will have lunch at Our Place restaurant, and then visit Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center. We will tour Wolf Ridge and enjoy a presentation on hummingbirds. The trip will cost $42.00 per person with lunch at your own expense.

An eight-hour AARP driver safety beginning class will be on Tuesday, June 16, and Wednesday, June 17, from 5:30 – 9:30 PM at the Senior Center. There will be a fourhour driver safety refresher class on Wednesday, June 10 from 9:00AM – 2:00 PM.

Call the Senior Center at (218) 387-2660 for information on trips or activities. Stop at the Senior Center to work on the jigsaw puzzle, look at the photo album, borrow a book, or watch a video of a local event.

Lunch at the Senior Center is available Monday- Friday at 11:30AM. Please, call in your reservation to the Senior Center (387-2660) before 9:30AM. Arrowhead Economic Opportunity Agency provides the Senior Center lunches and has raised the price of lunches for people aged 60-plus to $3.50 and $6.50 for those under age 60.

Monday, August 31, the Brighter Side bus is leaving with sixteen folks on a five-day trip north of Lake Superior to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. We will stop at overlooks, Provincial Parks, Nipigon, White River, Wawa, and spend a night in Marathon on our way to the Sault. Tuesday and Wednesday nights will be in downtown Sault Ste Marie and we will ride the Agawa Canyon Tour Train on Wednesday. Our return trip begins on Thursday and we will arrive in Grand Marais on Friday, September 4.

The trip will cost $452.00 per person for double occupancy and $399.00 per person triple occupancy. Payment is due July 31. This includes transportation, lodging, tour train, and two breakfasts. A passport or Border Crossing Card will be needed for the trip. Call Pam at 387-2660 with questions or to register for the trip.
