Break down your boxes

Rosa Recycler here…remember me? I was instrumental, along with Doris Kreitlow and Tim Kennedy, in getting the Recycling Center going back in the ‘80s. My husband, Mr. Recycler, came home from the center yesterday with a sad tale of woe.

He was dropping off his haphazard but flattened load of cardboard and couldn’t fit it in the crusher because someone had placed some big, fully together boxes on top. He took them out to stomp on them (not the easily ripped apart kind) and he fell on his bum knee…the one that is scheduled for replacement surgery later this month. Ouch.

Double ouch when you consider how often this lack of proper procedure happens. The Recycling Center is a privilege that we are fortunate to have. It saves everyone money and helps the environment. Why can’t people follow the few simple rules that make the operation work smoothly?

Are people lazy or mean? I doubt anyone was plotting to knock over an 80-year-old man with their boxes, but when you don’t follow the rules, someone has to cover for you. I guess it’s not lazy or mean..it’s lazy or selfish. Or maybe both.

Anyway…please folks, separate your plastics properly and flatten your cardboard!
