One of Cook County’s finest high school girls’ basketball players ever, Brea Boomer, has accepted the position to be the head coach of Duluth East Greyhounds girls’ basketball team.
Boomer graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stout this past spring where she was a four-year starter for the Blue Devils. Boomer was a two-time captain and earned All-Conference honors in her sophomore and senior seasons. She was also named her team’s offensive MVP during her sophomore and senior seasons.
An all-around athlete, Boomer starred in three sports at Cook County. She was a three-year starter in basketball, volleyball and softball, earning All-Conference in all three sports her junior and senior years.
On the basketball court in high school, Brea was noted for her rebounding and defensive toughness. She could also score, and is only one of a handful of Cook County High School girls to score more than 1,000 points for her career.
Brea is the daughter of Mike and Lori Boomer of Grand Portage. Her brother Kale, also a fine CCHS athlete, is currently a junior defensive back for the UMD football team.
