Cook County High School basketball fans know that 5’9” Brea Boomer is one tough cookie, but in college she has also proven to be one tough “durable” cookie.
To date the former three-time All-Conference Polar League player has played in 76 games since arriving on the University of Wisconsin-Stout college campus three years ago. That, of course are all of the games her team has played in that time. Quite a feat for any athlete.
Over that period Boomer has pulled down 222 rebounds, made 90 steals, scored 641 points, had 62 assists and made 18 blocks.
Last year her picture adorned the Blue Devil women’s roster cover; this year she has been voted captain by her teammates.
A heady player who is fearless, Boomer does all of the small things right and mixes brain and brawn with a tireless work ethic. That combination propels her past many taller players, past quicker players and past players who can run faster and jump higher. All attributes that help but don’t make a complete player. And if “scrappy” were considered a physical ability, she would score 10 out of 10 in that category.
That’s not to say Brea doesn’t possess athletic ability, she does, but if one could bottle her work ethic and sell it most players would benefit.
Brea is a 2011 graduate of Cook County High School. She is the daughter of Mike and Lori Boomer, Grand Portage.
