The Cook County High School boys’ varsity tennis team traveled to Virginia, MN twice within one week to play matches against defending Section 7A team champion, Virginia, May 2, and Eveleth-Gilbert, on May 8. The Vikings lost to Virginia, 5-2, and to Eveleth-Gilbert, 4-3. The CCHS tennis players have continued to show improvement throughout the season, but they haven’t been able to put together the four wins, during their matches, necessary to gain a team victory.

Senior captain and No. 1 singles player, David Bergstrom, and No. 2 singles player, Lars Scannell, remain undefeated so far, but the rest of the team is still struggling with consistency. Hopefully, this will come as the players continue to gain more match-play experience and continue to work hard during practice, developing their skills. The Vikings have a relatively young team and it will take time to develop a consistent winning program.

The CCHS boys’ tennis team had two home matches this week, May 15 and 16, against Cloquet-Esko-Carlton and Duluth Denfeld, respectively. At press time the Vikings were preparing for a team section match.
