Playing away over the holiday’s, the Cook County Boys’ basketball team played an exciting game against the Mille Lacs co-op Lisle/Onamia boys’ basketball team on December 29.
It was in a game that featured some great defense and clutch shooting by Paul Dorr.
Trailing much of the way, a determined group of Vikings had to fight hard to catch up and then take the win.
Following the victory, Head Coach Andy Feddema said, “Our team was down eight points at halftime, down ten late in the second half; still, they never gave up and we clawed our way back to tie the game with 48 seconds left.”
At that juncture, said Coach Feddema, “We forced a turnover and let the last shot rest in the hands of Paul Dorr. Paul waited until there was about 10 seconds left on the clock, drove left, and hit a step-back jump shot with five seconds left that gave the Vikings a thrilling 43-41 win over Mille Lacs.”
Paul Dorr finished with 19 points and six rebounds, including scoring the last nine points for the Vikings. Jacob Dorr had 10 points and five rebounds. Derek Smith had two points, six rebounds, and five steals. “He (Derek) was relentless on the defensive end all night.,” said Coach Feddema.
Recko Helmerson- Skildum finished with two points and five rebounds,” including four offensive rebounds,” Coach Feddema said. Rohan Rude had eight points, and Denali Blackwell had two points.
“It was a great win for our team tonight,” stated Coach Feddema.
