Who was going to win the tie breaker?
That was the question when the Cook County Boys’ basketball team traveled to face the Mariners on Monday, March 7 in a Section 7A playoff game played in Silver Bay.
On January 20 the Vikings were pounded 71-37 by the Mariners in Silver Bay. The Vikings flipped the script by routing the Mariners 57-38 on February 8 in a home game.
So, who would set the narrative for game three?
The Vikings, that’s who.
By playing terrific defense and hitting their shots, the Vikings ran away from the Mariners, taking a 67-31 win.
Viking’s Head Coach Andy Feddema had this to say following the win.
“This was a great win for the Vikings tonight. The opportunity for a young team to advance in the playoffs is a big deal, and I’m proud of the boys for the way they played tonight.
“Defensively, we forced their better players into tough shots, and made them work for what they got. Offensively, we did a nice job of spreading the ball around, and we ended with four guys in double figures.”
Junior guard Paul Dorr led the Vikings with 18 points, eight rebounds, and six assists. Sophomore forward Recko Helmerson-Skildum had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
