Boys Play Doubleheader Against Two Harbors

The Vikings lost the first game of a double header to Two Harbors, but the game was close for a good while.

The Agates scored one run in the first, two in the second and one in the third to take a 4-0 lead going into the fourth inning. The Vikings countered with three in the fourth and shut the Agates out to trail 4-3 going into the fifth.

During the Vikings big third inning Hunter Gomez tripled, Amos Falter hit a home run and Jacob Dorr ground-out but drove in a run on the play.

However, the Agates countered, sending six runs across the plate in the fifth and held the Vikings scoreless the rest of the way. The Agates added two more runs in the sixth inning and won 12-3.

The Friday, May 13 double header was supposed to be played in Two Harbors, but the location was moved to Superior, Wisconsin High School because the Agates field was too wet from the storm the night before.

Jacob Dorr took the loss for the Vikings. Jacob gave up three runs on four hits in two innings, striking out three Agate hitters. Kole Anderson pitched three innings of relief, giving up five hits and seven runs while striking out five. Isaac Sandstrom threw one inning in relief giving up two hits and two runs.

Brjen Jones took the win for the Agates. Jones pitched six innings. He gave up three runs on five hits while giving up no walks and striking out eight.

Hunter Gomez led Vikings hitters with two hits in three at bats. Amos Falter had one hit in three plate appearance, Paul Dorr was one for three, and Jacob Dorr was one for three.

The Agates managed to collect 11 hits, three players had at least two hits in the game. The Agates didn’t commit any errors while the Vikings had two.

Game two

In the second game of the double-header the Vikings got off to a 2-0 lead after the first inning was complete. Neither team scored in the second and each team had one run cross the plate in the third.

The pitchers blanked the batters in the fourth, but the Agates bats came to life in the fifth when they scored three runs while holding the Vikings scoreless. The Agates were up 4-3 going into the sixth and that’s how the game would end as neither team scored again.

Both teams finished with two errors.

Despite pitching a strong game, Paul Dorr took the loss for the Vikings. Paul pitched a complete game, giving up seven hits, four runs, walking two and striking out six.

Ethan Bopp pitched the first two innings for the Agates. He gave up two hits and two runs while striking out three. Sebastian Bark replaced him on the mound and pitched five strong innings, allowing three hits, one run and striking out two.

Amos Falter led the Vikings with two hits. Paul Dorr, Jacob Dorr and Kole Anderson each had one hit. Two Harbors finished with seven hits. Each team had two walks.
