On Thursday, January 20 the boys’ basketball team traveled to Silver Bay to face the Mariners and fell 73-35.

Paul Dorr led the way with 12 points and nine rebounds. Daunte Deschampe had nine points and eight rebounds. Jacob Dorr had five points and six rebounds. Rohan Rude had six points. Derek Smith had three points.

When asked why some players weren’t in the line-up against Silver Bay Viking’s Head Coach Andy Feddema said, “I’ve had so many players out this season due to covid protocols, I’ve had to play JV players almost every game.”

The next day the young Vikings traveled to South Ridge to play the Panthers and fell 92-41. The Panthers are exceptionally big at the post position for a high school team, and they have some strong three-point shooters, so this was going to be a “tall” order for the Vikings.

And, while it looks like the game was blowout, the reality was the Vikings hung close through the first half.

“Despite the final score, I am proud of the way the boys fought this game,” said Head Coach Andy Feddema. “We played right with South Ridge for the first ten minutes, it was a four-point game deep in the first half. As the game went on, we really struggled to control their two 6’-9” post players.”

Paul Dorr led the way with 15 points, four rebounds, and three steals. Derek Smith had 11 points, Rohan Rude had eight points. Coach Feddema said Rude “has been shooting the ball well from three-point land.” Jacob Dorr finished with seven points.

“Binesii Aubid had a steal late in the game for us as well,” added Coach Feddema.

The boys have two more games on the road before coming home to play Floodwood on February 1. The varsity game starts at 6:30 p.m. Come out and cheer for your Vikings!
