A young Vikings boys basketball team is finding early-season play to be challenging, running into two very talented teams over their first two basketball games of the season.
Last week, Cherry held them to under 20 points, and on Friday, December 17, the Vikings played 2A Moose Lake-Willow River and fell 72-17.
Leading the Vikings was Derek Smith with eight points and four rebounds. Paul Dorr had three points and five rebounds. Jacob Dorr finished with four points, and Recko Helmerson-Skildum had two points in the game.
Viking Head Coach Andy Feddema said his team never gave up, playing hard throughout the contest.
“It was a tough game for us last night, obviously,” Coach Feddema said. “Moose Lake is a very good team, coming off a Class 2A state tournament run last season. We struggled offensively to hit shots. It was a great learning game for our young team to play against an experienced, talented team. Despite the score, our boys fought till the very last buzzer.”
