The Cook County boys’ basketball team was no match for the Moose Lake/Willow River Rebels (MLWR) basketball team on Friday, December 20, falling 102 to 55.
The Rebels are now 6-0 on the year and the Vikings are 0-4, still looking for that first win.
Senior guard Pete Sutton led the Vikings in scoring, netting 33 points on the night. Adam Dorr scored nine points, Jordan Porter finished with five, Austin Lincoln, Derek Smith and Tate Crawford each ended their night scoring two points a piece.
The Vikings were down 67-33 at halftime. It was a hole the Vikings couldn’t claw their way out of.
“They (MLWR) are a very skilled team,” said Viking head coach Colin Everson. “They played at an incredible pace we weren’t ready for and could not match.”
Everson also noted that the Rebels were, “A very deep team; they had 12 players score so they were able to get up and down and play at a pace they wanted to which helped them. We haven’t faced a team of that caliber yet, so it was good for us to see the level of competition that great teams play at.”
Despite the loss, Everson said his team had a “great opportunity to learn from the game film and take those lessons with us into the rest of the season.”
The Vikings played in the Ely Christmas tourney and have their first game of the new year at home on Jan. 3, at 6:30 p.m., against the South Ridge Panthers. Come out and cheer for your Vikings!
