Boys lose to M.I.B. and Northland



The Vikings lost a close game this past week and lost a second game that wasn’t close when they faced Cromwell at home on Friday and then travelled to play the Northland Eagles in Remer on Saturday, February 12, the next day.

Cromwell came into the game with a 10-9 record but are 8-0 in the conference. At the break the Vikings were down three, trailing 28-31. Behind the shooting of sophomore Dylan Nyberg’s 25 points Cromwell was able to beat the Vikings by ten points 56-45.

Denali Blackwell led the team with 19 points, seven rebounds, five assists, two blocked shots and four deflections.

Javantae Love finished with 11 points, two rebounds, two steals and one deflection. Amos Falter ended with five points two rebounds and one steal. Jordan Backstrom had four points, four rebounds, one steal and one deflection. Derek Smith finished with two points, six rebounds, seven assists, four steals and three deflections. Ryan Smith had two points, two rebounds and one steal. Cade Smith finished with two points and four rebounds. Binesii Aubid Jr. had two rebounds, one assist, one steal and one deflection. Recko Helmerson-Skildum had one rebound, one steal and one deflection.

Northland Eagles

The Cook County High School boys’ basketball team lost to the Northland Eagles 92-39 in a non-conference game played on Saturday, February 11 in Remer.

Northland outscored the Vikings 58-13 in the first half to put to the game away. The Vikings played the Eagles much better in the second half, scoring 26 points while only giving up 34.

Javantae Love and Denali Blackwell were the Vikings high scorers with nine points each. Derek Smith and Jordan Backstrom each had eight points and Binesii Aubid had three and Ryan Smith two.

With the loss the Vikings record fell to 3-13. Meanwhile, the Northland Eagles ran its yearly mark to 20-1.

Next up for the Vikings is a trip to play Esko in Esko on February 17. The Vikings last two home games will be played February 20 against Wrenshall and February 24 against Littlefork Big Falls. Both games start at 6:30 p.m.
