Boys fare well at track meet



On May 4 the Cook County boy’s track team traveled to Moose Lake to compete against Barnum, Cromwell, South Ridge, and Moose Lake/Willow River.

Senior miler Kevin Viren placed third in the 1,600 meter (mile) run with a time of 5:09.84. Brayden Schmidt crossed the line in sixth in 5:27.22. Also competing was Kyler Hansen (5:49.56), Keean Selin (5:55.75) and Isaac Schmidt (6:41.88).

Cook County boys won the 4×800 meter relay with a time of 10:34.28.

Placing 12th in 400- meter run was Eddie Larson who ran 78 seconds. Arlo Christenson and Silas Ekstrom also ran the 400 meters for the Vikings.

Jonah Schmidt (2:49.43) and Keean Selin (2:49.78) finished out of the top places in the 800 meters but battled each other to the finish line.

Running the 200 meters was Eddie Larson (32.19) Dylan Brown (32.54) and Aanakwad Redix (34.54). The boy’s placed 17, 18, and 21st in the race.

Calvin Bates took 12th in the discus with a throw of 75’1” feet. Arlo Christensen threw 47’3” and Silas Ekstrom 23’1”.

Overall, the boys’ team is very young but improving steadily as the season goes along.
