Boys fall to Mesabi East

The Cook County boys’ baseball team traveled to Aurora on Friday, April 14 to play Mesabi East Giants and lost 6-2 in a game that was much closer than the final score would indicate.

Mesabi took a one to nothing lead after the first inning. Neither team scored again until the fourth when the Vikings pushed two runs across the plate to take a 2-1 lead. Mesabi scored one in the fifth while blanking the Vikings to tie the score. The sixth inning was big for Mesabi as they scored four runs. The Giants blanked the Vikings in the Vikings last two at bats to win 6-2.

Amos Falter pitched four strong innings giving up two runs while striking out seven.

Mesabi ended with four hits while the Vikings Kole Anderson, Benelli Meyers and Ethan Tate each had one hit in the game.

The Vikings committed two errors in the field while the Giants played error free ball.

It was the first game of the season for the Vikings. The Monday, April 17 home game scheduled to be played against Two Harbors was cancelled because of a blizzard.

The Junior Varsity also took the field against the Mesabi East JV and lost a heartbreaker 6-5.
