The Cook County Boys’ basketball team fell behind early against Lakeview Christian Academy last Friday night but the young Vikings made a valiant comeback before running out of steam late in the game as the Lions pulled away to win the contest.

Early in the game the Lions used their 3-2 trapping press to cause take-aways on a flustered Viking squad. It wasn’t long before the Vikings were down 15-2 before settling down and clawing their way back to make it 22-18.

Over the rest of the game the Vikings stayed close, but they could never quite even the score. Late in the game the Lions would go on a run and pulled away to take a 60-41.

“I’m very proud of the effort the boys put forth,” said Head Coach Andy Feddema.

Sophomore guard Paul Dorr had a strong game and led all scorers with 22. Derek Smith, also a sophomore guard, finished with 10 points and eight rebounds. Jacob Dorr, a junior forward, added seven points and five rebounds. Enrique Henriquez, a senior guard, had two points. Tate Crawford, a 5’9” senior guard who plays center, led all rebounders with nine bords

The Vikings boys’ basketball team hosted the Cherry Tigers on March 11 for their last home game of the regular season. In addition to the game, it was also Senior Night for the team’s five seniors: Tate Crawford, Enrique Henriquez, Ethan Poulin, Raymond Young and Lyndon Magiskan were honored by the crowd.

The boys’ team begins playoffs on March 16.
