As the season winds to a close, there are a flurry of make-up games and regularly scheduled games to be played before playoffs start, and the Vikings baseball team has had a hectic spring schedule.
On Saturday, May 21, the Vikings traveled to Ely to play the Timberwolves and got behind early, giving up three runs in the first inning. The Timberwolves added three more runs in the fourth inning, two runs coming off a single by Mason Davis.
The Viking’s lone run came in the top of the fifth inning when Benelli Myers was hit by a pitch and took first base. Myers moved to second on a wild pitch against C. Smith and advanced to third on a wild pitch thrown to h. Rex. And finally scored when a wild pitch was thrown to Landon Sheils.
Vikings ended up losing 9-1.
Ely pitchers held the Vikings to two hits, one by Amos Falter and J Shannon. Meanwhile, the Timberwolves racked up 12 hits, with Mason David, Erron Anderson, and Eddie Prijatel each getting three hits.
Benelli Myers took the loss for the Vikings. Myers gave up seven runs and 11 hits over four innings. He struck out four and walked two. Kole Anderson pitched two innings of relief. Kole gave up one hit and two runs while striking out five.
Mason Davis took the win for the Timberwolves. Mason pitched seven innings, allowing one run, two hits, struck out five, and walked four.
The Viking committed three errors while Ely fielded a clean game.
