Boys fall to Carlton and Marshall



On March 2 the Viking boys’ team traveled to Carlton to play the Bulldogs and lost 86-68. The following day the Marshall Hilltoppers came to town and beat the Vikings 78-63.

Carlton Bulldogs

Sophomore guard Denali Blackwell was the only Viking to score in double figures, finishing the game with 29 points. Blackwell was 11 of 19 from the field for a 58 percent shooting average. He had six three-point baskets in the game, six rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

Derek Smith had nine points, seven rebounds on assist and one steal.

Jordan Backstrom had eight points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Javantae Love had seven points, three rebounds, one assist and two steals.

Cade Smith made six points, pulled down seven rebounds, and had one assist.

Rohan Rude scored four points, had six rebounds, two assists and one steal.

Binesii Aubid had four points, four rebounds, and one assist.

Sequoia Morrin, Nicholas Spry, Parker Backstrom, and John Pierre each had one rebound.

Marshall Hilltoppers

The Vikings had no answers for Marshall’s big forward who ended up with about 50 points and had four dunks in the game.

At halftime the Vikings were down 39-31 and over the second half Marshall scored another 39 points to 32 for the Vikings.

Once again Denali Blackwell led the Vikings in scoring with 25 points. Javantae Love had 13, Derek Smith eight, Rohan Rude eight, Jordan Backstrom five, Cade Smith two. Blackwell had five three-point baskets while Rohan Rude had two and Derek Smith one.

Derek Smith led the team in rebounds with eight while Cade Smith finished with seven. Rohan had six rebounds and Javantae Love had six rebounds. Recko Helmerson-Skildum had four boards. Blackwell led the team in assists with four.

Marshall’s record went to 4-23 while the Vikings record fell to 3-16.
