The Viking boys played two games in the last week, one against the Barnum Bombers and the second against the Silver Bay Mariners. Up first was the game against Barnum.
After playing even for the first half—30-30—the Vikings were outscored 41-25 in the second half against Barnum and fell 71-55 in a game played in Barnum on Friday, February 7.
Seniors Jordan Porter and Pete Sutton were pretty much the only offense the Vikings had on this night. Porter scored a team-high 29 points while Sutton tallied 22 points, about five points below his season average. Adam Dorr had three and Tate Crawford one point to end the Vikings scoring.
Joel Peterson, 25 points, and Blaze Hurst, 22 points, led Barnum.
“Barnum was a tough game against a good opponent,” said head Coach Colin Everson. “We played well most of the game. We trailed by four points with a few minutes left, a few mistakes down the stretch, and we couldn’t quite pull back to grab the game. Overall, we brought good energy and showed growth.”
Vikings play Silver Bay
On Tuesday, February 11, the Vikings traveled to Silver Bay to face the Mariners. Earlier in the year, January 14, the Vikings beat the Mariners 59-45 at home. This time, however, the Vikings would lose to the Mariners 70-48.
“Silver Bay was tough, we didn’t play with the focus and energy we needed to execute,” said Coach Everson. “We are looking to learn and grow into the remaining games of our season.”
Pete Sutton, 21 points, and Jordan Porter, 17 points, were the only Vikings in double figures. Austin Lincoln scored five points, Adam Dorr three, and Paul Dorr had two points for the Vikings.
On February 13 the Vikings played Duluth Marshall at home, and the next day, mighty Esko comes to town to play in a 4:45 p.m. match in the Pam Taylor gym.
The Vikings last home game of the regular season is against Nashwauk-Keewatin on Friday, February 21. The game starts at 6:30 p.m. Come out and cheer for your Vikings!
