Boys fall to Barnum

Cook County stayed with the Barnum Bombers for the first half, trailing 29-23 at the break, but the Bombers pulled away in the second period of play to take a 68-50 win.

The game was played last Friday night at home.

“Our boys competed with a team looking to win the conference,” said Viking Coach Keaton Riley. “I am very impressed with our improvement. Defensively, we played great, and our offense is starting to gel little by little. Turnovers still plague us, but without Rohan Rude (out with a broken nose), a lot of our boys are being asked to take on a bigger role in both handling the ball and defensively.”

Sophomore guard Denali Blackwell led the Vikings in scoring with 23, five of those baskets coming from behind the three-point line. Denali also had three rebounds, three steals, one assist, and one touch. Ryan Smith had seven points, four rebounds, one assist, and two blocks. Javantae Love had five points, five touches (deflections), one steal, two rebounds, and one block.

Amos Falter had five points, two rebounds, one steal, and one touch. Derek Smith had four points, seven rebounds, one assist, two steals, and three touches. Jordan Backstrom had two points, two rebounds, one steal, one assist, and one touch. Binesiii Aubid had two points, one rebound, and one steal. Recko Helmerson Skildum had two points, six rebounds, one assist, two blocks, and three touches.

The loss dropped Cook County’s record to 3-11. Barnum’s won-loss record went to 11-5 and 4-0 in the conference.
