Boys drop doubleheader at home



The Vikings played the Silver Bay Mariners and Moose Lake-Willow River at home on Tuesday, May 23, and lost both games.

After three innings, Moose Lake-Willow River (MSLK) was up 7-0. However, the Vikings scored three in the fourth, two in the sixth and one run in the seventh and lost 11-6.

The Vikings recorded four hits in the game. Hunter Gomez, Amos Falter, Ethan Tate, and Cade Smith all had one hit for the Vikings, who walked nine times.

Amos Falter started and pitched three innings. He allowed four hits, seven runs, and seven walks while striking out five. Cade Smith pitched three innings in relief and allowed six hits, four runs, three walks, and four strikeouts.

The Vikings committed four errors to one for MSKL.

Vikings fall to Mariners

Silver Bay led 3-0 after one. A two-run rally by the Vikings in the second left the Vikings trailing 4-2 after Silver Bay posted one run in that inning, but then it was all Silver Bay as the Mariners scored three in the third, three in the fourth, and after two scoreless innings, added three more runs to one more for the Vikings in the seventh to take a 13-3 victory.

Ethan Tate started on the mound for the Vikings. Ethan allowed seven runs off four hits and nine walks in three innings. He struck out four. Jake Mixdorf relieved and gave up five hits, six walks, six runs, and struck out four in four innings.

Five Vikings, Hunter Gomez, J Shannon, Kole Anderson, Hunter Rex, and C. Pederson, each had one hit in the game.

The Vikings had seven errors in the game, while Silver Bay recorded two.

Two Harbors Agates polish off the Vikings

Even though the Vikings recorded 16 hits to ten for Two Harbors the Vikings lost in a high scoring game played on the Agates field on Wednesday, May 24.

Viking Assistant Coach Tim Miller said, “It was a wild one. Cold and Windy. We had some of the best hit balls of the season, but it wasn’t enough.”

In a see-saw scoring affair the Agates led 3-1 after one and 7-4 after two, but the Vikings scored four unanswered runs in the third to go ahead 8-7.

The Agates gained back the momentum pushing four runs across the plate while holding the Vikings scoreless in the fourth to take the lead for good.

Neither team scored in the fifth and the Vikings managed one run in the sixth to five for the Agates. A three-run rally by the Vikings in the seventh fell short and the Vikings fell 16-13.

Hunter Gomez, Hunter Rex, and Kole Anderson led the hit parade for the Vikings as each went 3-5 from the plate. Benelli Myers and Cade Smith each had two hits and J Shannon, Ethan Tate, Jake Mixdorf, all had one hit.

Two Harbors batters walked 13 times to three walks for the Vikings.

Kole Anderson started on the mound, throwing 3.1 innings. Kole gave up five hits, nine runs, walked seven and struck out seven. Hunter Gomez came in to relieve Kole. Hunter gave up five hits, seven runs, walked six and struck out six in 2.2 innings.

The Vikings committed seven errors to four for the Agates.
