Soaring like an eagle, Peter Warren went up over the defense to score two points in a recent game against Lakeview Christian.

Down by a point at the half, the Cook County High School boys’ basketball team got just enough offense in the second half to secure a 46-43 win over the Two Harbors Agates. The game was played Friday, February 22 in Two Harbors.

Once again senior guard Colin Everson led all Vikings with 20 points. Junior center Jonny Jacobsen scored 14 points while Kale Boomer chipped in 8 points and Peter Warren finished out the Vikings’ scoring with 4 points.

Alex Lemke led Two Harbors with 15 points.

“We were really flat against Two Harbors,” said Head Coach Mitch Dorr. “We had a little bit of a layoff after a tough game versus Lakeview and it showed. We played well enough to win, but we just weren’t emotionally engaged. It was encouraging to see Jonny play another great game even though we struggled as a team.”

The boys’ record is now 12-7 and 7-5 in the conference. They are ranked 6th out of 11 teams in the Polar League.

Boys beat Mariners 60-48

Justin Goldstein and Kale Boomer both had great nights shooting from beyond the 3-point line against the Silver Bay Mariners on Monday, February 25 in Silver Bay. The game was a make-up for an earlier contest that was cancelled due to bad weather.

Goldstein hit five 3-point shots to score 15 points while Boomer hit four 3-point attempts to end his night with a team-high 18 points. Colin Everson ended with 13 points while Jonny Jacobsen netted 12 points and Peter Warren scored 2 points.

Silver Bay’s smooth shooting guard Kyle Blood led all scorers with 20 points.

Commenting on the game, Coach Dorr said, “Silver Bay played a box and 1 on Colin which left Justin open for many open looks. It was great to see Justin step up and play well.

“Jonny played tremendous for the third game in a row. He had nine rebounds on top of his 12 points. His confidence continues to grow and he is really playing good basketball. With Jonny’s emergence, the pressure is off for Kale to get every board.

“Trevor Deschampe really played well off the bench. Lars Scannell was gone due to a case of mono,” Dorr said. The boys ended their season 13-7 overall and were 8-5 in the conference to finish 6th overall in the Polar League out of 11 teams.

The boys will play in Esko on March 7 in the sub-sections where Dorr said the Vikings look like they will be the 5th seed in the bracket. As of press time they still didn’t know who their opponent would be.
