Cook County used a big fifth inning to salt away a win against the Moose Lake /Willow River Rebels last Thursday in a game played here.
Neither team could generate any offense the first two innings, but Cook County put two runs on the scoreboard in the third, added one more in the fourth and then five more in the big fifth inning.
Patrick Pierre and Amos Falter both singled in runs in the fifth. Paul Dorr and Hunter Gomez also had an RBI in the fifth.
The Vikings used a strong pitching performance and good defense to keep Moose Lake off the scoreboard through the first four innings. The Rebels were able to score one run in each of the last three innings while the Vikings added one more run in the sixth to take a 9-3 win.
The Rebels had their chances. They recorded ten hits to six for the Vikings. However, the Vikings received four walks to one for the Rebels.
Paul Dorr pitched a complete game, allowing three runs while giving up ten hits. He struck out three and walked one in a strong performance on the mound.
DJ Seidel, Tate Crawford, and Kole Anderson all had one hit in the game.
The Vikings had two errors to five for the Lakers.
L Overdahl took the loss for the Rebels. He pitched 4.2 innings, allowing six hits, four walks, three strikeouts and eight runs.
