One bad inning doomed the Cook County/Silver Bay Babe Ruth baseball team in the team’s opening debut played at home on Thursday, June 25.
The CC/SB team scored one run in the second and one in the fourth inning to lead 2-0 going into the 5th inning. That’s when Taconite exploded for six runs. A three run rally in the seventh left the CC/SB team falling one run short in their opening game 6-5 loss.
Ero Wallin opened on the mound, striking out two, walking two, and giving up one hit in three shutout innings. Timmy Perfetto who gave up six hits, six runs, two bases on balls and striking out one in 1.1 inning relieved him. Riley Tiboni pitched the final 2.2 innings, giving up one run and one hit.
Meanwhile two Taconite pitchers managed to give up two hits, walked eight, and struck out nine to take the win.
Andrew Miller and Kole Anderson each doubled, and each recorded an RBI (runs batted in) for the Cook County/Silverbay combined team.
